Why Noah?
Hi friends!
I am so, so excited to be writing my very first blog post! I just recently went on an amazing trip to the Creation Museum & Ark Encounter, (10/10 recommend both!) so it's not surprising that Noah's story has been on my mind recently. Have you ever wondered why God flooded the Earth? Why He chose Noah? Was everyone on the Earth really that wicked? Was Noah a perfect person? LET'S DISCUSS!
If God created everything and saw that it was good, why did He destroy it all? Well, He didn't destroy it all... He picked Noah to play a pretty crucial part in His plan. I know that it is pretty hard to believe that there was only one family who didn't live for evil in the world, but it's true. God doesn't pick favorites. He didn't draw Noah's name out of a hat. In 2 Peter, it says that Noah was a preacher of righteousness. Noah wasn't perfect, but he loved God and lived the way that God intended for everyone to live, and God does not turn His back on His people.
God is merciful and good. He didn't flood the Earth because He just wanted something to do. It is truly impossible for us to really understand why God does what He does because He is Holy and all-knowing, and we are most certainly not. But, we do know this- God created this world perfectly. He made Adam and Eve, and they lived so perfectly that our minds can't even fathom the thought. So when they sinned... things changed. Because God is so Holy and perfect, sin separates us from Him- so much so that something blameless had to be offered as a sacrifice. You see where I'm going with this, don't you? Yep, God sent His perfect Son to this broken world, and He died for us!
In Noah's time period, things aren't very pretty. Because every intent of the human heart was pure evil, mankind was far away from God. He wants to know us, so even though we sin against Him time and time again, He has given us a way out. Because Noah wanted to grow in His walk with the Lord, God gladly opened the ark door for him. And can you imagine Noah's amazing faith?! If you are reading this right now, you more than likely have someone who you can go to with questions involving your faith. A fellowship group of Christian believers, even. Guess who Noah had? His family and God. That's all.
People probably thought that Noah was insane. Looney tunes. Absolutely crazy. Yet, He knew the truth! Noah was a good man, but he was human. I'm sure skeptical thoughts passed through his mind. But he threw them out. Acceptance from this world is absolutely nothing compared to what God has planned for you. No, we won't build an ark and load up two of every kind of animal, but God has a plan for each of us. God wants a relationship with us.
Why is this important today? Do I need to look at this as more than a Sunday school story? ~
One of this biggest things that stood out to me on this trip was the ark door. Ya'll, it was so cool! Noah walked through that door, safe from God's judgment because he believed. Even though he seemed crazy in the eyes of the world, what God had in store for him made the world's approval seem meaningless. God opened the door of the ark- the door of Noah's salvation. The door of salvation... sound familiar? Guess what? We have a door of salvation, too! We can be saved by simply accepting Jesus as our savior and living our life for Him. Then not only will we be saved, but we can live this life sharing this absolutely wonderful news!
"I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved." ~ John 10:9. Just as God sealed the door of the ark, Jesus will do the same for us! If we walk through the door of salvation, the Bible says that nothing can ever separate us.
God established a covenant with Noah, with this world, and with us. Even though we will always sin, He will always pour His mercy and grace over our lives. Even though we as sinners deserve punishment, He gives us a way out. Those who seek His will will have their paths made known to them. Our God is our friend, our Father, our Creator, and He is Holy, powerful, and good. He led Noah and his family though the door of salvation, and He will do the same for anyone who comes to Him. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Him. He wants you, His child, to walk through the door and live for Him. How amazing it that?!
Great job Alex! Keep writing!
